SAUAC has announced the date and venue for its 2026 Wellness Walk Against Cancer while launching a nationwide awareness campaign this June.
South Africa United Against Cancer (SAUAC) has officially launched its June awareness campaign, aligning with Youth Month and Pride Month while announcing details for its flagship Wellness Walk Against Cancer 2026.
The national campaign, themed “No Youth, No Identity Left Behind”, aims to ensure that young people and LGBTQIA+ communities are included in cancer awareness initiatives and have access to potentially life-saving information.
As part of the announcement, SAUAC has confirmed that the Wellness Walk Against Cancer 2026 will take place at Rietvlei Zoo Farm in Johannesburg on Saturday, 24 October 2026. Organisers hope to attract 10 000 participants under the national theme “10,000 Steps of Hope – 10,000 Voices United Against Cancer.”
The event will feature both 5km and 8km routes and is expected to bring together survivors, families, corporates, youth groups and communities from across South Africa in support of cancer awareness and early detection.
SAUAC Founder Tshepang Lutshaba said the walkathon represents more than a single event.
“Creating platforms like the SAUAC Walkathon is about more than an event; it is about giving South Africans a voice, a space to unite, and a reason to act. Awareness must be visible, inclusive, and accessible to all.”
Lutshaba added that the announcement marks an important milestone for the growing movement.
“The release of the official venue and date is an exciting milestone. It signals that this movement is growing, that momentum is building, and that South Africa is ready to stand together. We encourage everyone to save the date and be part of a movement that has the power to change lives.”
The June campaign encourages South Africans to know their bodies, recognise early warning signs, seek medical help when needed and speak openly about cancer.
According to SAUAC, cancer affects one in three South Africans during their lifetime, with late diagnosis remaining one of the biggest barriers to survival.
Ticket registrations for the walkathon will officially open on 1 July 2026, with registrations available through the SAUAC website and other platforms. Standard tickets will cost R350, while an early bird special of R300 will be available for a limited period. Group, family and corporate packages will also be offered.
Sponsored tickets will help provide access for young people, cancer survivors and underserved communities.
Through awareness campaigns, community engagement and national initiatives, SAUAC continues to promote a simple but powerful message: awareness is the first step to survival, early detection saves lives, and every voice and every step matters.
