Crypto Education Gap Spurs New SA TV Launch

Crypto adoption in South Africa is outpacing public understanding, prompting a new television initiative aimed at closing the knowledge gap. Binance, the global blockchain company, is launching “The Getting Crypto Show,” a six-episode financial education series that premieres Saturday, 18 October 2025, at 15:00 on S3 and SABC Plus.

Hosted by financial educator Nicolette Mashile and co-hosted by actor Anton David Jeftha, the programme promises plain-language explainers on blockchain basics, digital wallets, and decentralised finance, with a focus on practical use cases. Episodes will include demonstrations such as paying for groceries with Binance Pay at Pick n Pay, alongside expert interviews and community Q&As.

“Many people are hearing about crypto but don’t know where to begin,” said Yande Nomvete, Operations Manager at Binance Africa, adding that the series is designed to build confidence in understanding and using digital assets.

Mashile said the show aims to normalise the conversation. “Crypto still feels complex and out of reach for many South Africans, but it doesn’t have to be,” she noted, arguing that digital assets should form part of evolving financial literacy.

S3 Head of Channel Sane Zondi said the broadcaster sees its audience as early adopters and expects the series to accelerate skills for a “digital finance” future.

“The Getting Crypto Show” airs Saturdays at 15:00 on S3 and SABC Plus.
