Homes handed over in City’s Edward Avenue project

The City of Cape Town’s Human Settlements Directorate has handed over homes to beneficiaries and their families at its Edward Avenue Breaking New Ground (BNG) housing project in the Ottery, Grassy Park area. This project will provide opportunities for 124 qualifying beneficiaries.

‘I am elated to see the excellent progress being made on site. This project initially experienced delays but is now fortunately on track. Over the next few months, we will hand over all the homes in this project to the qualifying beneficiaries. Construction is expected to be completed by June 2026, if all goes according to plan. This handover marks another meaningful step forward for the Edward Avenue project and the families who are now able to move into their homes.

‘The City remains committed to completing this project and to advancing housing delivery in areas across the metro. We thank the Ottery community, Human Settlements officials and all project partners for their cooperation in making progress here,’ said Mayoral Committee Member for Human Settlements, Councillor Carl Pophaim.

Beneficiaries of City housing projects are selected in accordance with the City’s Housing Allocation Policy and Housing Needs Register to ensure housing opportunities are made available in a fair and transparent manner that prevents queue jumping and to those who qualify for housing as per the South African legislation.
