Westgate Mall Donates Soccer Kits Locally

Westgate Shopping Centre will donate soccer kits to three local schools, extending its FIFA World Cup FanZone legacy through youth development and community investment initiatives.

As the curtain falls on Westgate Shopping Centre’s FIFA World Cup 2026 FanZone campaign, the centre is ensuring its impact extends beyond the tournament by investing directly in local schools and young footballers.

In celebration of Nelson Mandela Day, the shopping centre will donate soccer kits to the football teams at Westridge High School, Princess High School and Kagiso Senior Secondary School. The initiative recognises the role sport plays in developing confidence, teamwork and opportunity while supporting schools with resources that can benefit learners long after the tournament has ended.

The handover builds on the momentum created by the centre’s “Feel the Game. Live the Glory.” FanZone campaign, which brought communities together through live FIFA World Cup screenings, appearances by football legends and interactive family activities.

Former Bafana Bafana striker Mark Williams helped launch the initiative during his visit to the centre, where he shared his personal journey from adversity to sporting success and donated signed copies of his autobiography, From Gangster to Soccer Legend.

“I did not come to Westgate just to sign my name. I came to share my story, because I know what it means for young people to see that where you come from does not decide where you can go,” said Williams.

The soccer kit donation continues that message by providing practical support to schools while encouraging participation in sport as a vehicle for personal growth and social cohesion.

The initiative also commemorates Nelson Mandela Day, recognising Mandela’s contribution to South Africa’s successful 2010 FIFA World Cup bid and his enduring belief in sport as a force for bringing communities together and creating opportunity.

“Our FanZone was built on the support of this community, and this is our way of saying thank you. In recognition of Nelson Mandela Day, we want to give something back that outlasts the campaign itself and supports the young people of Westgate,” said Wiley Quinn, General Manager of Westgate Shopping Centre.

By transforming the excitement of the FIFA World Cup into a lasting investment in young people, Westgate is demonstrating how community partnerships can leave a legacy that extends well beyond the final whistle.
