Hospitality Think Tank Tackles Global Challenges

Hospitality leaders will unite to address artificial intelligence, climate risk and geopolitics while supporting tourism skills development and environmental conservation through industry collaboration.

Hospitality and tourism leaders from across Southern Africa will gather at Emperors Palace on 31 July for the fourth annual Hospitality Industry Think Tank, where the sector’s biggest challenges and opportunities will take centre stage.

Launched by Dream Hotels & Resorts in 2023, the Think Tank has become a leading forum for industry collaboration, bringing together business leaders, tourism associations and hospitality professionals to explore practical solutions for an increasingly complex operating environment.

This year’s programme will examine how global geopolitical tensions, shifting trade relationships, artificial intelligence and climate change are reshaping the hospitality industry. Discussions will also focus on sustainability, operational resilience and preparing businesses for future growth.

Industry associations including FEDHASA, SATSA, VOASA, SASTRA and TBCSA will provide updates on their engagement with government, while delegates will explore how AI is improving operational efficiency, customer experience and revenue generation across the sector.

Climate resilience will also feature prominently, with conversations addressing extreme weather events, environmental compliance, insurance risk and sustainable tourism practices.

Chris Godenir, Touching Dreams ambassador and General Manager of the Peninsula All Suite Hotel, said the Think Tank has evolved alongside the industry’s changing landscape.

“We’ve gone from sharing best practice to grappling with global trade shifts, the pace of AI, and a changing climate. The landscape is moving quickly and it’s never been more important for hospitality and tourism to collaborate.”

Beyond industry discussions, the event continues to support meaningful social impact through Touching Dreams, with all proceeds helping fund community development and environmental initiatives.

A key beneficiary is the Think Big Academy, which prepares young people from disadvantaged communities for careers in hospitality through accredited qualifications, practical workplace experience and industry mentorship. After welcoming its first group of 20 learners last year, the programme is expected to train 100 learners during the 2026/27 intake.

Current students will share their experiences during the event, giving delegates first-hand insight into how industry support is creating employment opportunities and strengthening South Africa’s future hospitality workforce.

The keynote address will be delivered by Johnny Goldberg, Chairman of Global Business Solutions, who will discuss entrepreneurial leadership and innovation.

The Think Tank is presented in association with SATSA, TBCSA, FEDHASA, VOASA and SASTRA, with Wyndham Hotels & Resorts returning as headline sponsor alongside several leading hospitality and tourism partners.

The event concludes with the annual Touching Dreams Gala Dinner, where guests will enjoy entertainment by Jesse Clegg, performances by Ballex Dance Entertainment & Events, and hosting by DJ and radio producer Kyle Cassim.

All proceeds from the Gala Dinner will benefit Reach For A Dream, the Endangered Wildlife Trust and the Touching Dreams Think Big Academy, reinforcing the industry’s commitment to creating opportunities for people while protecting South Africa’s natural heritage.
