Two Oceans Strengthens Marathon Safety Standards

The Totalsports Two Oceans Marathon has elevated its 2026 safety strategy by appointing Mediclinic and ER24 as official medical service providers for the event.

In preparation for the 2026 edition of what is widely known as the World’s Most Beautiful Marathon, organisers have confirmed a strengthened medical partnership designed to enhance runner, volunteer and spectator safety across all race distances.

By bringing Mediclinic and ER24 on board, the event significantly expands its medical footprint from start to finish, reinforcing its commitment to world-class health and emergency response support.

“The 2026 edition of the Totalsports Two Oceans Marathon reflects a significant investment in runner health and safety through the appointment of Mediclinic and ER24 as its Medical Service Providers. This strategic commitment enhances start, on-route and finish-line medical capabilities and underscores the event’s dedication to world-class care, ensuring robust health and safety support for runners, volunteers and spectators at the World’s Most Beautiful Marathon,” says Chris Goldschmidt, Chairperson of the Two Oceans Marathon NPC.

Organisers say the partnership strengthens preparedness across all key points of the race, including route coverage and finish-line response capacity.

“The role of Mediclinic and ER24 as Medical Service Providers of the Totalsports Two Oceans Marathon reflects our commitment to participant safety and event excellence. Their expertise ensures world-class medical support throughout the event – from start to finish – giving runners confidence and allowing us to focus on delivering an exceptional experience at South Africa’s most iconic road running event,” says Wade Bromfield, General Manager of the Totalsports Two Oceans Marathon.

For 2026, 10 medical points will be positioned along the Ultra Marathon route and five along the Half Marathon route. A fully equipped medical facility, including ICU and trauma services, will operate at the finish area. ER24 will provide pre-hospital care and emergency transport to the nearest appropriate hospital where necessary.

Medical oversight will be led by Mediclinic’s Chief Medical Director for the event, Dr Darren Green, who will supervise care delivery ranging from routine treatment to emergency interventions.

“We are excited to be the official medical service partner, bringing our state-of-the-art medical offering to this iconic event,” confirms Dr Green. “Our team of medics, doctors and nurses will be on the ground, ensuring that runners, volunteers, and spectators have access to the highest standard of care at every stage. We will have medical points strategically placed along both the Ultra and Half Marathon routes, a fully equipped hospital facility at the Finish, and pre-hospital support from ER24. Our goal is to allow every participant to focus on their race, knowing that expert medical care is available throughout the race.”

The 2026 event schedule includes the Trail Run on Friday 10 April, the Ultra Marathon on Saturday 11 April and the Half Marathon on Sunday 12 April.

As one of South Africa’s most iconic sporting events, the Totalsports Two Oceans Marathon continues to position safety, operational excellence and community impact at the centre of its global reputation.
