600 School Administrators Gain Accounting Skills

Six hundred school administrators across the Eastern Cape will receive accredited accounting training aimed at strengthening financial management and improving administrative capacity within public schools.

Regent Business School has partnered with the Eastern Cape Department of Education to deliver the training programme during the 2026 academic year.

Participants will enrol in the Higher Certificate in Accounting, a one-year distance learning qualification designed to provide working professionals with practical financial, accounting and business skills.

The initiative focuses on a group of professionals whose work is critical to the effective functioning of schools. By strengthening their understanding of financial management and business operations, the programme aims to improve both individual career prospects and institutional effectiveness.

School administrators are often responsible for supporting financial processes, record keeping, procurement administration and other operational functions. The training is intended to give participants a stronger foundation for managing these responsibilities and contributing to better decision-making within schools.

The Higher Certificate in Accounting covers accounting principles, financial management and business operations. Participants will develop practical skills in applying accounting principles within workplace settings, using financial software and technologies, and interpreting financial information to support decisions.

The qualification also provides a potential pathway for participants who want to progress into entry-level accounting roles or continue their education in related fields.

The distance learning format allows the 600 participants to continue working while completing their studies, an important consideration for professionals balancing employment, education and personal responsibilities.

To support the programme’s rollout, Regent Business School has deployed a dedicated team to conduct a roadshow across all 12 districts of the Eastern Cape.

The roadshow focuses on ensuring bursary beneficiaries understand the structure, objectives and expectations of the programme. It also prepares participants for the practical demands of balancing work, study and personal commitments.

A further focus is governance and compliance, with the team assisting participants with the enrolment documentation required to meet admission requirements.

The partnership reflects a broader approach to skills development that recognises the importance of strengthening the people and systems that support teaching and learning.

While teachers remain at the centre of classroom education, effective schools also depend on capable administrative teams that can manage financial processes, support governance and contribute to efficient daily operations.

By investing in accredited education for 600 administrators, the initiative creates an opportunity for skills development to generate impact at two levels: improving the career prospects of individual participants while strengthening administrative and financial capacity across schools.

The partnership between Regent Business School and the Eastern Cape Department of Education demonstrates how targeted professional development can support public education institutions while expanding access to recognised qualifications for working professionals.

As participants progress through the programme, the long-term value will be measured not only through completed qualifications, but through the application of stronger financial and business skills within schools across the province.
