Marlin Surf Lifesaving Club receives safety gear after Mossel Bay drownings

As part of its corporate social responsibility and commitment
to the development of human capital, Transnet National Port Authority’s (TNPA’s) Port of
Mossel Bay has donated swimming safety gear to the Marlin Surf Lifesaving Nippers Club, in
wake of drownings and near-drownings incidents at local beaches.

The donated items, which include lifesaving aid training equipment and apparel, are aimed at
enhancing hundreds of Nippers (future lifeguard training for the local youth) with water safety,
awareness and capabilities. The items will assist in training children and educating them to
prevent drowning at beaches, tidal pools, stretches of coast, and all public swimming pools
ahead of the summer tourism boom in the Garden Route.

Commenting on the much-needed donation, Jethro Moses, a Nipper officer at the Marlin Surf
Lifesaving Club said: “Over the years the town has witnessed multiple drownings and near
drowning incidents and as a nipper movement we are committed to the adequate education
of our nippers as they prepare to one day become lifeguards and perform the vital role of
ensuring safety of people undertaking water recreational activities”
TNPA remains committed to uplifting the livelihoods in communities where it operates.
