A charity golf day organised by Cruise Vacations raised R250,000 for rhino conservation, bringing together businesses, supporters and partners to strengthen protection efforts nationwide.
The inaugural Swing for the Rhinos Charity Golf Day, held at Jackal Creek Golf Estate in Johannesburg, united golfers, sponsors, donors and conservation advocates around a common purpose: protecting one of South Africa’s most threatened wildlife species.
The event was hosted in support of Rhino Connect, a conservation organisation dedicated to supporting rhino protection initiatives through awareness campaigns, partnerships and fundraising activities. The funds raised will contribute towards the organisation’s ongoing efforts to safeguard rhino populations and strengthen conservation programmes.
A number of corporate partners supported the event, including Tourvest, ERA Real Estate, REVOV Batteries, Carrier Air Conditioners, Sys Control and Star Clippers. Their contributions helped create a successful fundraising platform while highlighting the role the private sector can play in supporting environmental sustainability and biodiversity conservation.
One of the highlights of the day was a seven-night Mediterranean sailing experience for two donated by Star Clippers. The prize became the centrepiece of a fundraising auction that also featured luxury safari experiences, holiday accommodation, original artwork, travel packages and lifestyle prizes valued at more than R300,000.
Additional support came from HOT 102.7 and Hot Cares, which contributed to the fundraising efforts and helped generate awareness around the importance of rhino conservation.
Cruise Vacations, a South African luxury cruise specialist with more than three decades of experience, committed its team and resources to planning and delivering the event. The initiative reflects a growing trend of businesses aligning corporate activities with environmental and conservation causes that create measurable social impact.
According to Cruise Vacations representative Gaynor Neill, the success of the event demonstrated the power of collaboration.
“The success of Swing for the Rhinos demonstrates what can be achieved when businesses and individuals come together for a common purpose. Every rand raised will help Rhino Connect continue its vital conservation work,” said Neill.
Rhino Connect Founder Tersia Jooste welcomed the support and highlighted the importance of partnerships in conservation.
“Conservation requires collaboration. The funds raised will directly assist Rhino Connect in continuing our efforts to protect and preserve rhinos for future generations,” she said.
Following the success of the inaugural event, organisers have confirmed plans to establish Swing for the Rhinos as an annual fundraising initiative aimed at generating ongoing support for conservation and creating greater awareness of the challenges facing South Africa’s rhino population.
