191 Metro Police Officers Promoted

Nearly 200 Metro Police officers have been promoted or appointed to new leadership ranks, strengthening operational capacity, supervision and service delivery across communities.

The City’s Metro Police Department has promoted and appointed 191 staff members as part of a new career advancement initiative aimed at strengthening leadership and creating opportunities for professional growth within the department.

Through the process, 107 officers have advanced to the rank of sergeant, while 84 members have been appointed as inspectors. The inspector rank is a newly introduced position designed to expand career progression opportunities and strengthen middle management capacity.

The initiative recognises officers who met the required criteria for advancement and reflects the department’s commitment to developing leadership from within its ranks.

The introduction of inspectors is expected to enhance operational effectiveness by providing experienced officers with greater responsibility for supervising teams, coordinating operations and mentoring junior members.

According to the City, strengthening leadership structures within the Metro Police Department will improve oversight, accountability and service delivery while supporting more effective policing outcomes across communities.

Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, Alderman JP Smith, said many of the promoted members had demonstrated dedication and commitment over many years of service.

“This achievement is particularly meaningful as many of the members who were promoted have demonstrated remarkable dedication, perseverance, and commitment over a period spanning nearly two decades. This is a well-deserved recognition of their experience, sacrifice, and unwavering commitment to public service,” said Smith.

He added that the promotions not only recognise long-serving officers but also create visible career pathways that can improve morale, productivity and workplace culture within the department.

The promotions were formally recognised during a ranking ceremony held at Edgemead Community Hall on 10 June 2026, marking an important milestone in the department’s efforts to invest in leadership development and strengthen public safety services across the city.
