Automechanika Expands African Automotive Partnerships

Automechanika Johannesburg hosted a Cairo roadshow aimed at strengthening African automotive partnerships and supporting deeper regional trade, manufacturing and aftermarket collaboration opportunities.

Automechanika Johannesburg 2026 has strengthened its African outreach efforts through a strategic roadshow and press conference hosted in Cairo, Egypt, focused on expanding regional automotive partnerships and trade collaboration.

Held on 6 May 2026 at the Kempinski Nile Hotel, the event formed part of the broader promotional programme supporting both Automechanika Johannesburg and Automechanika Frankfurt.

The roadshow brought together senior representatives from Messe Frankfurt South Africa, the Engineering Export Council (EEC), Frost & Sullivan, automotive industry stakeholders and regional business media.

The engagement highlighted Egypt’s growing role within African automotive trade and reinforced the importance of stronger economic and industrial ties between North Africa and Sub-Saharan Africa. Organisers said the initiative reflects a shared commitment to building stronger market understanding, regional partnerships and practical trade opportunities across the continent.

The programme included presentations from industry leaders, including Dr Ahmed Fikry A Wahab, Board Member of the Engineering Export Council and Vice President of the African Association of Automotive Manufacturers (AAAM), who outlined the importance of building integrated African automotive value chains.

According to Dr Fikry, Africa’s automotive growth opportunity lies not in demand creation alone, but in strengthening industrial ecosystems capable of supporting manufacturing scale, supplier development and cross-border cooperation.

He emphasised the importance of coordinated supplier networks involving manufacturers, component suppliers, logistics providers, testing services and finance institutions to support long-term industry sustainability across the continent.

The roadshow also highlighted the significance of the African Continental Free Trade Area (AfCFTA) automotive Rules of Origin framework, which industry leaders say could help strengthen localisation and create more connected manufacturing systems across Africa.

Market insight shared during the event pointed to Egypt’s growing automotive potential, supported by increasing aftermarket demand, manufacturing capacity, strategic geographic positioning and expanding export opportunities into African and international markets.

The event also reinforced the complementary role South Africa and Egypt could play as regional automotive hubs, particularly through stronger cooperation around engineering capability, supplier development, manufacturing and logistics.

According to organisers, the Cairo engagement demonstrated growing demand for platforms that connect African markets with international business opportunities while supporting practical implementation and investment partnerships.

Automechanika Johannesburg 2026 is scheduled to take place from 27 to 29 October 2026 at the Gallagher Convention Centre.
