TEARS Animal Rescue has launched a WhatsApp Vet Shop, giving Cape Town pet owners a convenient way to support animal welfare while shopping for their pets.
The new service allows customers to purchase pet food, treats, accessories and other essentials directly through WhatsApp, creating a simple and accessible way to support one of Cape Town’s leading animal rescue organisations while ensuring pets receive quality products.
The launch comes as TEARS prepares to open its new physical Vet Shop and Clinic, which is currently in the final stages of development. Rather than waiting for the facility to be completed, the organisation has introduced the WhatsApp platform to immediately connect supporters with products and services that benefit both their pets and animals in need.
According to TEARS Operations Manager Mandy Store, the initiative is designed to make pet care more convenient while creating additional support for the organisation’s animal welfare programmes.
“We’ve been working hard to bring a vet shop to our community and we didn’t want to keep people waiting. The WhatsApp Vet Shop means we can get started straight away,” said Store.
The TEARS Vet Shop offers a range of trusted pet care brands, including Rogz, Hills, Montego and Lekkerbarkey. Customers can browse products ranging from dry food and treats to collars, leads, toys and everyday pet accessories.
The organisation believes the platform will make it easier for animal lovers across Cape Town to access quality products while contributing to a meaningful cause.
Ordering has been designed to be straightforward. Customers can browse the available catalogue, place orders via WhatsApp and collect their purchases from a number of convenient collection points. These include the TEARS kennels, cattery and TEARS thrift stores located across the city.
Collection services are available seven days a week between 09:00 and 16:30, while a courier option is available for customers who are unable to collect in person.
Beyond convenience, the initiative represents an important step in strengthening sustainable funding for animal welfare services. Non-profit organisations often face significant financial pressures as they work to rescue, rehabilitate and rehome vulnerable animals. By creating innovative fundraising channels, organisations such as TEARS are able to generate ongoing support that helps sustain their operations.
Every purchase made through the TEARS Vet Shop contributes directly towards supporting the organisation’s animal rescue and welfare programmes. These programmes provide shelter, veterinary care, rehabilitation and adoption services for thousands of animals each year.
“Every purchase made through the TEARS Vet Shop helps support our animal rescue and welfare programmes,” added Store. “When you shop with TEARS, you’re not only providing for your own pets, you’re helping vulnerable animals receive the care they deserve.”
The new WhatsApp Vet Shop also reflects the growing role of digital platforms in expanding access to services and support. By meeting supporters where they already communicate, TEARS is creating a more accessible and user-friendly experience while strengthening community participation in animal welfare efforts.
As TEARS continues to develop its new Vet Shop and Clinic, the WhatsApp service offers an early opportunity for supporters to become part of the journey while helping fund critical services for animals in need.
For pet owners across Cape Town, the initiative offers a simple proposition: shop for your own pets while helping provide care, shelter and hope to animals waiting for a second chance.
The TEARS WhatsApp Vet Shop is now open. Customers can begin shopping by adding 063 855 5137 to their contacts and browsing the available catalogue.
Through this innovative approach, TEARS is demonstrating how technology, community support and animal welfare can come together to create meaningful and lasting impact.
