Midlands State University (MSU) has planned to resume on-campus studies from 22 June. The University says it is now prepared for the first batch of students to return this coming Monday.
The Zimbabwean government had already given Universities the right to open schools from 1 June following guidelines from the Ministry of Health and Child Care as well as World Health Organisation to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
Other Universities like University of Zimbabwe (UZ) and National University of Science and Technology (NUST) had already responded to the government by opening on-campus studies while MSU still conducted online lessons.
The University has also warned all students to brace themselves for examinations that have been set to begin in early June and end in August. The University also acknowledged that students had been learning online and they are ready to sit for exams.
“The University would like to advise final year students that plans for opening our campuses in preparation for the end of semester examinations are at an advanced stage. Remote teaching for these classes will continue until 19 June 2020. Thereafter, students will return to campus under a phased approach,” said the university correspondent.
MSU also told students that on-campus accommodation will be provided to students who had already paid for the accommodation. This will also be a precautionary measure to avoid the spread of COVID-19.
“Those students that had paid accommodation fees prior to the Covid-19 lockdown will be exempted from paying additional accommodation fees. All other Gweru campus undergraduate students who were accommodated off campus before the lockdown will be required to pay a residence fee of ZWL$800.00 for the period they will be on campus. Meals will be sold at the old prices that were being charged in March 2020 just before the break,” said the University correspondent.
