UN Women Executive Director Phumzile Mlambo-Ngcuka and Deputy Executive Director Anita Bhatia are participating at the 2020 Annual meeting of the World Economic Forum from 21 to 24 January in Davos, Switzerland.
The sessions at Davos will cover a range of issues that are relevant to advancing gender equality, such as women’s leadership, the gender digital divide and harnessing the opportunities of emerging technologies for accelerating gender equality.
Twenty-five years after the adoption of the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action – the most comprehensive blueprint to achieve women’s empowerment and gender equality – UN Women will optimize the presence of the world’s prominent thinkers and actors at the World Economic Forum this week to seek inputs and to advance the Generation Equality Action Coalitions.
The Action Coalitions will be launched in July 2020 at the Generation Equality Forum in Paris, marking the 25th anniversary of the Beijing Platform for Action. As global, innovative, multi-stakeholder partnerships with governments, civil society, international organizations, and the private sector, the Action Coalitions will catalyze collective action, drive increased public and private investment, and deliver game-changing results across generations for girls and women.
The Executive Director will also preview the findings of the report of the UN Secretary-General on the Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action, which highlights the fundamental gaps and gains, based on data from 163 countries. She will discuss on how and where to invest to drive gender equality results during the UN Decade of Action (2020-2030) and to deliver the Sustainable Development Goals.
In her role as Discussion Leader at the Women Leaders’ Dinner, Ms. Mlambo-Ngcuka will guide a discussion on the necessary actions to remove barriers faced by women today to advance women’s leadership in different sectors.
Ahead of the World Economic Forum, UN Women Executive Director and Deputy Executive Director contributed their thoughts to the #fairerworld campaign on how businesses can transform themselves into more inclusive organizations to ensure a sustainable economic system.
