Telkom Foundation recognised 600 ProMaths learners for outstanding Mathematics and Physical Sciences achievements, strengthening South Africa’s future pipeline of STEM talent and innovation.
The Telkom Foundation has recognised 600 outstanding learners from its ProMaths centres in Ermelo, Volksrust and Bethlehem, celebrating academic excellence while reinforcing its commitment to developing South Africa’s future STEM workforce.
Held from 13 to 15 July 2026, the ProMaths Awards honoured learners for achievements including National Senior Certificate distinctions in Mathematics and Physical Sciences, top academic performance in Grades 9 to 11, and the Most Improved Learner awards.
The ceremonies brought together learners, parents, educators, government representatives, programme partners, Telkom employees and community stakeholders to celebrate young people who continue to excel despite socio-economic challenges.
Speaking at the ceremonies, Judy Vilakazi, Head of the Telkom Foundation, said the programme continues to invest in South Africa’s future innovators.
“Every learner we celebrate represents more than academic success. They represent South Africa’s future innovators, engineers, scientists and leaders. Through the ProMaths programme, we are investing in young people who will help solve tomorrow’s challenges and contribute meaningfully to our country’s economic growth,” she said.
The ProMaths programme provides supplementary Mathematics and Physical Sciences tuition, mentorship and structured learner support, helping learners gain access to tertiary education and careers in high-demand STEM fields.
The programme reached an important milestone in 2025 with the graduation of the first matric cohort from Telkom Foundation-funded ProMaths centres. One of its standout success stories is Luyanda Ndlozi from the Volksrust ProMaths Centre, who became the top-performing learner in Mpumalanga and the highest-performing learner nationally among Quintile 1 schools.
Now studying Mechatronics at the University of Cape Town through a Telkom Foundation bursary, Luyanda’s journey demonstrates how sustained investment in STEM education can create pathways from classroom achievement to university and future careers.
Through programmes such as ProMaths, the Telkom Foundation continues to strengthen South Africa’s STEM talent pipeline, helping more young people access opportunities that contribute to innovation, economic growth and an inclusive digital future.
