R435m Boost for Digital Inclusion

Vodacom is making a bold statement in the fight against digital inequality with a R435 million investment in the Northern Gauteng Area (NGA) for 2025/2026. This is not just a network upgrade — it’s a decisive push to connect millions, break barriers to access, and bring underserved communities into South Africa’s digital future.

The investment covers the North-West province and Tshwane Metropolitan Municipality, targeting areas long left behind. More than 190 new 5G sites will be rolled out alongside major 4G enhancements, supported by new 700MHz radio equipment to boost reach and reliability. For places like Ikagaleng township near Zeerust, this means broadband access for the very first time, with speeds of up to 350Mbps. Suddenly, a world of digital education, e-healthcare, and small business opportunity becomes a reality.

“This investment reflects Vodacom’s unwavering commitment to empowering communities through connectivity,” said Christo de Wet, Managing Executive for the Northern Gauteng region. “By modernising our network, we are enabling access to education, healthcare, and economic opportunities for millions of South Africans.”

But it’s not only about speed and coverage. Vodacom is tearing down affordability barriers with personalised data and voice packages through Just 4 You and Just 4 Your Town — ensuring that cost is no longer a reason to stay offline.

At the same time, the Easy2Own initiative is helping residents switch to 4G and 5G-enabled devices through affordable financing. In regions where many still rely on basic phones, this move is a game-changer — unlocking access to advanced services and cementing inclusion in the digital economy.

De Wet makes it clear: “This investment underpins our commitment to building a future-ready network that supports innovation, inclusivity, and sustainability across all regions.”

With this R435 million rollout, Vodacom is putting the Northern Gauteng region on the map for the digital economy — a move that could redefine opportunity for communities too long left behind.
