MultiChoice Talent Factory Opens 2026 Applications

The MultiChoice Talent Factory is once again opening doors for South Africa’s next generation of filmmakers, calling on driven, imaginative and ambitious creatives to apply for its 2026 intake. The programme continues to stand out as one of the country’s most powerful pipelines into the film and television industry.

Now in its 11th year, the MTF South Africa Academy has firmly established itself as a cornerstone of industry development. The 12-month, intensive programme is designed to move emerging filmmakers from potential to professional, equipping them with practical skills, creative confidence and real-world experience needed to succeed in South Africa’s competitive screen sector.

Through the Academy, selected participants gain hands-on exposure across the full production value chain, including directing, producing, cinematography, scriptwriting, sound, post-production, art direction and commissioning. Crucially, this learning takes place inside active production environments, with students working alongside experienced local producers on high-performing projects.

According to Bobby Heaney, the programme represents a long-term investment in South African storytelling. “The MultiChoice Talent Factory stands as a powerful commitment to the future of our industry. Every year we see exceptional talent emerge from the programme — young creators who go on to shape the sector, build production companies and tell stories that reach millions,” he said.

A proven launchpad into the industry

MTF is not a theoretical training initiative. Participants are immersed in real productions from concept to broadcast, gaining the discipline and adaptability required to work at professional industry standards.

Since its launch in 2015, the Academy has trained more than 140 filmmakers, many of whom have contributed to major South African productions such as Inimba, Homecoming, Youngins, Adulting and Miss SA. Graduates have gone on to establish successful production companies, including Pula Bakgaga Media and 4th Cycle, creating jobs and producing content screened on platforms such as Mzansi Magic and Showmax.

Who the programme is for

The MultiChoice Talent Factory is seeking South Africans who are passionate about storytelling and committed to contributing to the local and pan-African film and television landscape. Ideal candidates include recent graduates and young creatives who are eager to learn, collaborate, innovate and help shape the future of screen entertainment.

For those selected, the Academy offers more than skills training — it provides access, mentorship, industry credibility and a pathway into a sector where talent, discipline and opportunity intersect.

With a track record of turning emerging creatives into working professionals, the MultiChoice Talent Factory continues to play a critical role in strengthening South Africa’s film and television ecosystem, ensuring that local stories are not only told, but told well and shared widely.
