Bill Gates visits Cape Town to help Khayelitsha school

Philanthropist and Founder of Microsoft, Bill Gates visited Inkanini Primary School in Khayelitsha with his wife on Friday the 24th of October 2019. They got into philanthropy after reading an article about how children were dying from a preventable disease by the hundreds of thousands. “We focus on the 10 countries where we believe we can have the greatest impact, and we partner with organizations and individuals across 45 nations.” says the Gates.

The Gates Foundation aims to collaborate with the SA government on shared goals for global health and development, as well as support limited research, and provide technical and programme support for other priorities including family health, agriculture, water sanitation and hygiene. The foundation pledged close to R77 500 to Inkanini Primary School, which has more than 1 000 pupils.

The Grade R pupils from rehearsed a performance for the American couple but because of the weather condition, they couldn’t perform. They had planned a warm welcome for the duo, but due to the heavy rain, they couldn’t give one of the world’s richest men a South African welcome,” said Andile Lili of Ses’khona People’s Rights Movement. They ended the day by visiting a crèche in Site B informal settlement, which once struggled with flooding and sewage leaks that caused health hazards.
