Mscsports Sports Quiz Raises R750k for Charity

The annual Mscsports Sports Quiz 2025 has once again demonstrated the power of sport to inspire social impact, raising more than R750,000 for charity through one of South Africa’s most anticipated fundraising events.

A highlight of this year’s campaign was the official handover of R180,000 to Hot Cares during the organisation’s annual Teddython, held on 30 October. The donation formed part of the total funds raised from the Sports Quiz, which continues to unite South Africa’s sporting and corporate communities behind meaningful causes.

Hosted at The Venue at The Houghton Hotel and proudly sponsored by Bidvest Services International and RAM Hand-to-Hand Couriers, the 2025 edition of the Mscsports Sports Quiz delivered another record-breaking night. The event brought together sports legends, corporate teams, and fans for an evening that combined competition with compassion.

The live auction was once again a major highlight, featuring highly sought-after memorabilia that drew enthusiastic bidding. Among the standout items were a Springbok Rugby World Cup 2023 signed jersey, a Proteas 2025 Test jersey, and an Open Championship flag autographed by 40 past winners. The top auction item fetched R120,000, contributing significantly to the overall fundraising total.

Barney Girnun, Founder of Mscsports, said the event continues to show how sport can bring people together for a greater purpose.
“The Sports Quiz is about more than competition — it’s about connection. Each year we see how sport unites people and creates real impact. Handing over more than R750,000 this year is a proud moment for everyone involved, and we’re deeply grateful to our sponsors, sporting guests, and every team that played their part,” said Girnun. “Sport remains one of the most powerful vehicles for change, and this event continues to prove that.”

Adding to the excitement of the evening, Bidvest Services International, led by CEO Alan Fainman, claimed victory after a closely contested battle of sporting knowledge. Guests were joined by well-known South African sports figures including Victor Matfield, Siphiwe Tshabalala, and Temba Bavuma, who helped make the evening one to remember.

Representatives from Hot 102.7 FM, the radio station behind the Hot Cares initiative, commended the event for its lasting contribution to local communities.
“What a wonderful evening — lots of sports questions, laughter, and all for a good cause,” said Simon Parkinson from the Hot 102.7 Breakfast show. “The Mscsports Sports Quiz truly makes a meaningful difference to people across Johannesburg and South Africa.”

Proteas cricketer Lungi Ngidi, who also attended, echoed the sentiment:
“It’s a great cause, giving back to communities, and everyone had such a good time. I’m excited to be back, and I hope it continues for many years.”

With planning already underway for the 2026 edition, Mscsports says it aims to continue building on the event’s legacy of impact. The Sports Quiz has become a flagship fundraiser that combines entertainment, teamwork, and generosity — proving once again that when sport and purpose come together, the results make a real difference.
