Families get title deeds in Steenberg

Cape Town Mayor Geordin Hill-Lewis and Mayoral Committee Member for Human Settlements, Councillor Carl Pophaim, visited Steenberg this week to hand over title deeds to local residents as part of the City’s ongoing Service Blitz programme.

The initiative forms part of the City’s broader mission to accelerate the transfer of ownership to qualifying beneficiaries, ensuring greater security of tenure and economic empowerment for families across the metro.

According to Councillor Pophaim, the City has already delivered more than 7 000 title deeds through its Title Deed to Door campaign, supported by an investment of over R20 million. “This represents the largest municipal commitment in South Africa to fund property transfers for residents. A title deed provides more than ownership—it offers stability, dignity, and a pathway to financial growth,” he said.

The new Human Settlements Bus, set to be rolled out soon, will take the City’s housing services directly into communities, helping residents access support, resolve queries, and track the progress of title deed transfers.

Mayor Hill-Lewis emphasised that the City’s goal is to expand homeownership across Cape Town. “Every title deed handed over is a promise fulfilled and a step closer to a city built on secure, sustainable communities,” he said.

Residents can contact the City’s Human Settlements Directorate on 021 444 0333 for assistance with title deed queries.
