South Africa is once again preparing to turn purple as the annual Hollard Daredevil Run returns on Friday, 31 October 2025 — a bold event that continues to spark vital conversations about male cancers while raising funds to support life-saving awareness and screening initiatives.
For 16 years, the Daredevil Run has challenged men of all ages to take to the streets, office parks, and schools wearing nothing but purple Speedos and running shoes, using humour and courage to break the stigma around prostate and testicular cancer. What began as a small, quirky idea has evolved into a national movement of bravery, awareness, and community spirit.
Last year’s run raised R1 million and saw over 6 000 participants running in more than 400 locations across the country. This year, Hollard aims to double those numbers, ensuring that even more men get the screenings and support they need.
“Hollard is committed to driving positive change and creating awareness around prostate and testicular cancers,” said Hazel Chimhandamba, Hollard’s Group Chief Marketing Officer. “The purple Speedo has become a symbol of courage and hope — a reminder that being daring can save a life, sometimes even your own.”
In partnership with CANSA and the Prostate Cancer Foundation of South Africa, the event channels its proceeds into education, early detection, and treatment accessibility. Participants and supporters are also encouraged to donate via the Hollard Daredevil Run BackaBuddy platform to help expand the programme’s impact.
Entries for the 2025 Daredevil Run are now open at R180 via Ticketpro until 28 October, which includes a couriered race pack and the iconic purple Speedo. Johannesburg participants can still register on the day at Zoo Lake until 14h30, but spots are limited.
As excitement builds, purple Speedos with awareness-raising slogans are being couriered to runners nationwide, with thousands already signed up to make their “ballsiest move yet.”
