Cyril Ramaphosa Foundation celebrates 15th anniversary through art

Cyril Ramaphosa Foundation is celebrating its 15th anniversary by hosting a public art exhibition, titled “On Main Road” at Constitution Hill, Braamfontein. Art has long been a forum for expressing opinions about the state of politics and society. The displayed artworks can also be considered as social commentary. Social commentary is the act of using rhetorical means to provide commentary on issues in society. This is often done with the idea of promoting change by informing the general public about a given problem and appealing to people’s sense of justice.

The exhibition commenced on the 21st of November and will end on the 25th of December. It features work of fine art, posters, photography, video, craft and design. There are over 70 works on display by some of South Africa’s most emerging and established artists who used their art to speak to the themes of inequality, inclusion and exclusion, fragmentation and cohesion, borders and boundaries.

Cyril Ramaphosa Foundation is an independent public benefit organization that aims to improve lives by creating opportunities through education and enterprise development. Over the 14 years of its existence, the Foundation has made a meaningful contribution to the social and economic development of South Africa. “The time for change is upon us and we all have a role to play to create and contribute to the country we believe in. I believe everyone has the capability to collaborate and join hands to bring about meaningful change” said Cyril Ramaphosa, Chairperson of Cyril Ramaphosa Foundation

According to Mmabatho Maboya, CEO of the Foundation, “It allows us to commemorate an important milestone with a public event. We give thanks for 15 years of a sustained and meaningful record of programme implementation to improve lives through education and small business development. The choice of theme for the exhibition speaks to our formal purpose, which is to foster the development of an inclusive society that is empowered.” She explained
