The City of Cape Town has opened applications for R5 million in grant funding to support community organisations delivering programmes in vulnerable communities during the 2026/27 financial year.
The funding, administered through the Community, Arts and Culture Development Department, will support registered organisations working in substance abuse prevention, gender-related programmes and early childhood caregiver training.
Applications are now open and will close on 14 September 2026 at 12:00.
Mayoral Committee Member for Community Services and Health Councillor Francine Higham said community organisations play an important role in reaching residents who require support.
“This R5m in grant-in-aid funding will support registered organisations to deliver programmes in vulnerable communities, including substance abuse prevention, gender programmes and early childhood caregiver training,” Higham said.
She encouraged eligible organisations to apply before the deadline and make use of assistance provided by the City where necessary.
Organisations can submit proposals for Substance Abuse Prevention Programmes, Gender Programmes and Early Childhood Caregiver Training initiatives.
The City has also scheduled information sessions to assist organisations with the application process.
Four sessions have already been held in Athlone, Kuils River, Khayelitsha and Retreat, with two remaining sessions scheduled.
The next session will take place at Parow Civic Centre, 12 Tallant Road, Glenlily, on 2 September 2026, followed by a session at Belhar Civic Centre, Bloulelie Crescent, on 4 September.
Both sessions will run from 10:00 to 12:00.
Completed applications and supporting documentation can be delivered to the Research and Programme Development Branch on the 13th Floor of the Civic Centre, Herzog Boulevard, Cape Town, or submitted via email to Public.Participation@capetown.gov.za.
Applications will be assessed in accordance with the City’s Grants-in-Aid Policy and must comply with the Municipal Financial Management Act.
The City has warned that late or incomplete applications will not be considered.
The closing date is 14 September 2026 at 12:00.
