De Beers- from good to great

Good to Great (G2G) is a initiative by mining giant De Beers which outlines a five-year improvement journey focusing on four areas of sustainability management and performance: strategy, design and governance; people and behavior; performance management and reporting; and operational excellence the initiative has done the following:

• 110 per cent increase in the reporting of serious incidents
• 15 per cent reduction in Total Recordable Case Frequency Rate (TRCFR)
• No serious environmental incidents
• Re-energised HIV/AIDS campaign
• Energy savings target achieved
• Significant improvement against the updated social performance standards

In overall,  it is designed to deliver excellence in sustainability management by 2018, through driving further improvement and achieving more resilient performance.The improvement plan contains
a set of actions and commitments designed to ensure that efforts are aligned with strategic intent,and ensures sustainability is a fully integrated aspect of decision-making.

De Beers CSI(R) manager Abel Modonsela says

“Our commitment to Building Forever saw us make significant investment throughout 2015 to ensure that diamond revenues continue to drive economic development in the countries and communities where we operate far into the future.We invested US$697 million in CSI programs during 2015  where we continued our efforts to drive responsible business behavior within De Beers and across the industry, in order to maintain confidence in the integrity of both our business and our product”
