Artscape Celebrates Hanover Park Talent

Artscape and the City of Cape Town created new opportunities for local performers through an outreach concert celebrating creativity, community participation and emerging artistic talent.

Artscape, in partnership with the City of Cape Town, hosted its third Urban Outreach Concert at Hanover Park’s First Community Resource Centre, bringing arts and cultural experiences directly into local communities.

Supported through the City’s Formal Partnerships Programme, the initiative is designed to expand access to the performing arts while creating platforms for emerging artists to develop their skills and perform before live audiences.

Previous Urban Outreach Concerts were held in Atlantis and Athlone, encouraging residents from different communities to participate in Cape Town’s cultural life through shared creativity and community engagement.

The latest concert featured 38 performers from Hanover Park and surrounding communities. The three-hour programme included role-play, singing and dance performances, showcasing the depth of local artistic talent.

Ahead of the concert, participants attended preparatory workshops before performing alongside established professional musicians, giving them valuable mentorship and practical stage experience.

“Thirty-eight performers from Hanover Park and surrounding communities took to the stage at this latest Urban Outreach Concert, after also taking part in preparatory workshops. Through our partnership with Artscape, we are bringing the performing arts closer to residents while providing emerging local talent with a meaningful performance experience,” said the City of Cape Town’s Mayoral Committee Member for Community Services and Health, Councillor Francine Higham.

The Urban Outreach Concert programme continues to strengthen community participation in the arts while creating opportunities for local performers to build confidence, develop their skills and contribute to Cape Town’s vibrant cultural landscape.
