Legislator distributes 30 tonnes of cement to schools and clinics

In support of education in Zimbabwe, Mhangura legislator Cde Precious Chinhamo-Masango has donated 30 tonnes of cement to improve school infrastructures.

11 schools and clinics in Mhangura constituency received 30 tonnes of cement from Cde Chinhamo-Masango. The cement was acquired through the Constituency Development Fund (CDF) for construction and refurbishment purposes.

The Zimbabwean government has long since wanted to improve the school infrastructure and provide a better health sector.

During the handover ceremony, Mhangura legislator Cde Precious ,gave a speech and challenged development committees to construct durable infrastructure. The cement was later handed over to the representatives of the schools and clinics.

In her speech, the Cde said the 30 tonnes of cement was purchased in March but failed to be distributed to the respective beneficiaries because of the pandemic lockdown announced by President Mnangagwa about five months ago.

“I have been to several schools around the constituency and I realised most of them need a facelift. In choosing the institutions that benefited, I considered the deplorable state at some of them and I did so in liaison with the Constituency Development Fund Committee,” said the Cde.

“It is, however, imperative for the development committees to construct durable structures that will last for generations to come,” continued the legislator.

The schools and clinics that benefited from this donation included Scaffel, Cheuchi, Mhangura, Mtunzi and Gravelotte, and Murereka Clinic. The representatives of these institutions sent their gratitude stating that it was the first time a legislator had done something good in their area.

“This is the first time a sitting MP in our area has done this. We are in the farming community where former commercial farmers never prioritised the development of schools’ infrastructure,” said Ward 2 Councillor, Cde Lucky Machawira.
