Local scholarship recipients excel

Tamara Morolong, a third-year Bachelor of Laws (LLB) student and a beneficiary of Boikanyo Solar bursary programme, is committed to giving back to her community in Douglas. Dedicated to mentoring younger learners about the value of education, Tamara is passionate about empowering the next generation by sharing her knowledge and experiences, helping to pave the way for their academic and professional success.

Currently studying at the University of the Free State, she is one of three recipients of the Boikanyo Solar scholarship programme, who have successfully progressed into their next year of study this year, after producing satisfactory second-semester results. This notable achievement underscores the commitment and dedication of these students, who continue to excel in their respective fields of study.

“My goal is to give back to my community by mentoring younger learners about the importance of education and assisting them with applications to universities, colleges and bursaries. To all the young people in the Douglas community, I encourage you to pursue your dreams diligently because education is our only way out,” said Tamara.

This scholarship programme supports local students like Tamara within a 50km radius of the solar facility, who pass their Matric examinations and qualify to study for an undergraduate degree or National Diploma at a recognised tertiary institution.

Among the bursary beneficiaries who progressed are also Meakaila Katz pursuing a Bachelor of Education at the Sol Plaatje University, and Daverick Julius pursuing a Bachelor of Commerce in Accounting at the Sol Plaatje University.

In addition to funding for the recipient’s chosen degree or diploma, the scholarship offers full tuition fees, full residence tuition and meals, book allowance, monthly allowance, and a brand-new laptop. Boikanyo Solar’s scholarship programme serves as an excellent opportunity for young people in the community who wish to pursue higher education but have limited access to funding.
