Disability rights advocate and Zambian diplomat Dr. Francis Chishala has been recognised in Pretoria for advancing education, inclusion and cross-border leadership that uplifts marginalized communities.
Dr. Chishala, who serves as First Secretary – Education at the Zambia High Commission in Pretoria, received the ICN Challenge Champion Leadership Award in recognition of his contribution to educational diplomacy, disability empowerment and community development across Southern Africa.
The award was presented at a ceremony attended by members of the diplomatic community, where Dr. Chishala’s leadership was recognised as a powerful example of how adversity can be transformed into advocacy and systemic impact.
Presented by iChange Nations through its Special Envoy Dr. Ruben West, the award honours individuals with disabilities whose leadership strengthens communities and advances human dignity.
In his diplomatic role, Dr. Chishala has helped strengthen educational cooperation between Zambia and South Africa, creating opportunities for students, promoting academic partnerships and supporting educational mobility across borders. His work reflects the growing importance of education diplomacy in building skills, strengthening regional cooperation and expanding opportunity.
Beyond his diplomatic portfolio, Dr. Chishala has emerged as a leading voice for disability inclusion and human rights. He previously served as International Disability Special Rapporteur for People of African Descent through the Global Pan Africanism Network, advocating for greater representation, equity and empowerment.
His academic background in communications, public relations and policy analysis has further strengthened his ability to influence public discourse and institutional change, bridging leadership across government, academia and civil society.
Dr. Ruben West said Dr. Chishala’s work reflects leadership grounded in service and social transformation.
“Dr. Chishala’s leadership proves that every life is valuable. His work embodies service, integrity and innovation, uplifting communities and creating lasting impact,” he said.
