More than 25 women-led businesses showcased their products and services at the Women Trade Intervention Dialogue held at the Sandton Convention Centre. The event, hosted by the Department of Women, Youth and Persons with Disabilities in partnership with Standard Bank and other stakeholders, marked the official launch of South Africa’s Women’s Month calendar.
The dialogue aimed to address key challenges faced by women-owned businesses, including access to markets, funding, and digital tools. The event created a platform for entrepreneurs to engage directly with potential buyers, investors, and the broader public.
Standard Bank supported the event through its Enterprise and Supplier Development (ESD) programme, enabling entrepreneurs to gain visibility and explore new growth opportunities.
As part of the programme, six business owners took part in a live pitch challenge. Two winners received R10,000 each in funding to support their business growth. In addition, all participating enterprises were equipped with SimplyBLU point-of-sale devices at no rental cost, making it easier for them to process digital payments and increase their trading capacity.
The initiative forms part of Standard Bank’s wider commitment to inclusive economic growth. The bank is also a sponsor of the B20 Summit and serves as host of the Women 20 (W20), the official G20 engagement group focused on gender equity.
The event highlighted the growing need for targeted support to ensure that women-led businesses are included in South Africa’s economic growth strategies and have the tools they need to succeed.
