TotalEnergies Launches 50-Day Coastal Cleanup with Local Non-Profit

TotalEnergies E&P South Africa has partnered with local non-profit company Save a Fishie on a nationwide beach clean-up initiative aimed at tackling pollution along South Africa’s vulnerable coastline.

Like many coastal regions around the world, South Africa’s shores are under increasing threat from pollution, flooding, and neglect. Since its inception, Save a Fishie has collected over 37 tons of waste through its impactful clean-up efforts.

In a recent campaign supported by TotalEnergies, the Save a Fishie team undertook a sweeping coast-to-coast journey, covering the West Coast, inland waterways such as the Hennops and Jukskei rivers, and the East Coast down to the southern shoreline. The campaign removed over 7.3 tons of waste while also working to raise awareness and build a shared sense of environmental responsibility.

The initiative extended beyond clean-up operations to include education and advocacy, with local schools and community groups playing an active role. TotalEnergies contributed more than financial support—providing educational materials, logistics, and meals, and involving 25 of its employees through its volunteer program.

“We’ve partnered with Save a Fishie not only to provide support and resources, but also to engage our own team in meaningful environmental action,” said Baxolile Msomi, Head of Communications at TotalEnergies E&P South Africa. “Together, we are turning shared responsibility into collective action and reaffirming our commitment to protecting the environment.”
