Tedx Johannesburg announces bold speakers for event line up

TEDxJohannesburgWomen: Bold+Brilliant takes place in the closing days of 16 Days of Activism 2019 and among the speakers is Professor Pumla Gqola – a feminist, Pan-Africanist, academic, author whose books include Rape: A South African Nightmare and Reflecting Rogue: Inside the Mind of a Feminist.

“We are greatly looking forward to our second event for women – an occasion for inspiration, and for recognising the incredible work championed by women and girls in all fields,” says Kelo Kubu, TEDxJohannesburg Licensee. “We are very proud of the line-up that we’ve secured. An additional highlight of TEDxJohannesburgWomen: Bold+Brilliant will be the working lunch sessions that take place between the event’s morning and afternoon speaker sessions.

An open call to host these 10 sessions saw nearly 100 applications touching on many important topics – including self-defence techniques, gender diversity and inclusion and the ugly truth about gender capital.

These working lunch sessions are open to attendees of TEDxJohannesburgWomen only and potential audience members are encouraged to book their tickets as soon as possible to be able to attend what promises to be a brilliant addition to TEDxJohannesburgWomen.

“Everyone – not just women – is welcome to gather in celebration of moving forward, boldly and brilliantly, while sharing the work of shaping our future,” concludes Kubu.

About TEDx, x = independently organized event

In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized. (Subject to certain rules and regulations.)
