SPAR Women’s Challenge Tshwane Celebrates Purpose and Empowerment

Over 17,000 women filled the streets of Centurion this past weekend for the SPAR Women’s Challenge Tshwane, transforming the area around SuperSport Park into a powerful display of solidarity, strength, and purpose. But the significance of the sold-out event reached far beyond its 10km and 5km routes, echoing through the lives of women and girls across Gauteng.

Timed to coincide with Women’s Month, the 2025 edition of the Challenge was not just a celebration of health and fitness—it was a rallying point for real, measurable change in the lives of women. Through the My SPAR My Community campaign, over R350,000 was donated to organisations working at the frontlines of early childhood development, gender-based violence prevention, educational support, and burn care for young victims.

“This is not just a race; it’s a purposeful investment in our communities,” said Ralph Rajagopaul, Divisional Marketing Director for SPAR North Rand & Botswana. “We’re proud to give back to the women who support us every day, and to do it in ways that help them thrive.”

A standout element of this year’s event was the continued momentum of the SPAR End Period Poverty campaign, which aims to eliminate period poverty by 2030. Thanks to thousands of sanitary pad donations from race participants, 4,000 girls will now be able to attend school without interruption—ensuring dignity and opportunity go hand-in-hand.
