Rainbow Chicken Uplifts Learners After Storm

Rainbow Chicken renovated a storm-damaged classroom and provided essential support, restoring safe learning conditions and strengthening dignity, stability, and opportunity for Cosmoore Primary School learners.

Rainbow Chicken has stepped in to restore critical learning infrastructure and provide essential resources at Cosmoore Primary School in the Mkhambathini Local Municipality, reaffirming its commitment to community upliftment where it operates. The school, located on Ingomankulu Road along the B7 and B8 route, faced a major setback when strong winds destroyed one of its classrooms, forcing multiple learners to share a single teaching space.

The loss of the classroom placed significant pressure on educators and learners, disrupting teaching conditions and limiting the school’s ability to deliver quality education. Recognising the urgency of the situation, Rainbow’s KwaZulu-Natal team undertook the renovation of the damaged classroom, restoring a safe and functional learning environment. The intervention ensured that learners could return to a dedicated classroom, enabling teaching and learning to continue with stability and confidence.

Beyond infrastructure, Rainbow Chicken expanded its support through its “Rainbow Back-to-School” initiative by donating school shoes to learners from Grade R to Grade 7 based on individual need. This support helped address barriers faced by learners and families, ensuring students could attend school with dignity and improved readiness to participate in their education.

The company also strengthened the school’s sustainability efforts by providing gardening tools, donated by DTS, one of Rainbow Chicken’s service providers. The equipment included a brush cutter machine, spades, rakes and a garden fork, enabling the school to maintain its grounds and support its gardening initiatives, which contribute to both environmental learning and long-term sustainability.

“While we are proud to have supported Cosmoore Primary School during a time of need, our approach to social investment goes beyond a single project. We are intentionally adopting a broader and more sustainable approach to community development, focused on identifying and investing in initiatives that uplift, empower and create long-term value in the areas where we do business” said Alan Reddy, KZN Agriculture Executive.

The impact of the intervention was deeply felt within the school community, where the restoration of the classroom and additional support helped restore normal learning conditions.

“We express our heartfelt gratitude to Rainbow Chicken for renovating our Grade 7 classroom after it was destroyed by strong winds, just before the June 2025 exams. After struggling for assistance through formal channels, our request to Rainbow became an unexpectedly answered prayer. We thank Rainbow for listening to our plea, for the classroom renovation, the donation of shoes and gardening tools, and for taking the time to support our learners and community” said Miss K.L Ndlovu, Cosmoore Primary School Principal.

Rainbow Chicken Limited, a leading South African poultry producer listed on the Johannesburg Stock Exchange, continues to invest in initiatives that support education, strengthen communities and create sustainable impact. With over 60 years of experience, nearly 10 000 employees, and operations across more than 160 farms and processing facilities, the company’s social investment programmes form part of its broader commitment to community development and long-term economic resilience.
