Khai-Ma learners create a vision for their future careers

More than 500 learners in the Khai-Ma municipal district left this year’s Career Expo with more than brochures and speeches — they left with a tool to actively plan their futures.

With support from Aggeneys Solar, the 2025 expo introduced vision boards as a new learning element. Guided by mentors, learners mapped their personal goals against real career paths, an exercise designed to turn vague aspirations into actionable steps.

The impact was clear. Teachers reported that many learners were considering their futures with intent for the first time. One Grade 10 learner, whose board centred on a medical career, said her goal was to become the first doctor in her family to address the shortage of healthcare in her community.

According to Jeremy Prins, Social Performance Coordinator at Aggeneys Solar, the exercise was about shifting mindsets. “This was about giving learners something concrete — a reminder that their dreams are valid and achievable. The aim is to help them move from ‘I can’t’ to ‘I can,’ and eventually, to ‘I can help others,’” he said.

The expo was delivered in partnership with other Independent Power Producers, local NGOs, and government stakeholders, and included learners from Boesmanland High School, Aggeneys High School, and Aggeneys International Academy.

By moving beyond inspiration and into practical tools, the expo highlighted the growing role of renewable energy companies and local partners in addressing not just economic development, but the long-term empowerment of young people in rural communities.
