Cape Town-based not-for-profit (NPO) and social impact organisations recently had the opportunity to learn about fundraising, change management and innovation from some of the world’s best.
The event was a free, two-day virtual conference called Fundraising Online 2019 (#FRO), presented by the Resource Alliance. This is an international organisation that curates content and creates inspiring educational and leadership training events with innovative speakers.
NPO staff and management from a wide range of Western Cape organisations attended the screening in Woodstock on 12 and 13 June at Inyathelo: The South African Institute for Advancement.
Inyathelo Operations Director Feryal Domingo said: “Thanks to generous funding by The Atlantic Philanthropies some years ago, Inyathelo offers an attractive, well-resourced hub for NPOs. We wanted as many NPOs as possible to access this amazing learning opportunity, so opened up our meeting space and live streamed the conference on our big screens.”
Guests numbered about 40 over the two-day event, which had a strong focus on digital fundraising and engagement, how to harness emerging and disruptive tech trends, as well as offering insights into future trends. Resource Alliance said they estimated more than 5000 people from more than 120 countries tuned in over two days.
About 25 speakers based in Asia, Europe, North and South America represented organisations ranging from Amnesty International to UNICEF. South African social entrepreneur Patrick Schofield represented his fundraising platform BackaBuddy.
“This screening was also a great opportunity to remind local NPOs about Inyathelo’s support services and facilities that are geared to help grow sustainable organisations,” said Ms Domingo. “We offer workshops, training and advisory clinic sessions, and have a collection of over 2000 books, publications, DVDs, manuals, toolkits, magazines and directories. We also offer attractive, affordable work spaces.”
