All systems go for 2025 Bayhill Premier Cup

The event, considered to be the premier under-19 soccer tournament on the continent, celebrates 36 years of youth development in 2025.

The City’s Events, and Recreation and Parks Departments support the Bayhill Premier Cup by providing venues and related event services.

Staff have been hard at work to ensure that the Erica Park Stadium in Belhar is ready for action when the competition kicks off on Wednesday, 16 April 2025.

The Bayhill Premier Cup is considered one of the top under-19 soccer tournaments. Over the Easter long weekend, 32 teams from the Western Cape, the rest of South Africa and abroad, will vie for top honours.

In recent years, the final has been hosted at Athlone stadium, to accommodate more spectators, and that will once again be the case on Monday, 21 April 2025.

‘I want to commend the staff who have been hard at work behind the scenes to put the finishing touches in place for this highlight on the sporting calendar. The City is proud to be associated with the Bayhill Premier Cup, and we can’t wait to welcome the teams and their supporters. To all of the young participants, I wish you the very best as you compete for a spot in the finals, and for ultimate glory,’ said Mayoral Committee Member for Community Services and Health, Councillor Francine Higham.

‘We are proud of our long-standing partnership with the Bayhill Premier Cup, which has provided thousands of young soccer players with a platform to showcase their skills at a globally recognised tournament. Our support for the event is the City’s commitment to not only grassroots sports growth, but youth development. We are working with the event organisers behind the scenes to ensure the players and spectators have a safe and memorable tournament,’ said Mayoral Committee Member for Safety and Security, Alderman Jean-Pierre Smith

Erica Park Stadium has a maximum capacity of approximately 3 800 spectators. Tickets for games at this venue will be sold at the gate.

Tickets for the final at Athlone Stadium will need to be pre-booked online as advertised by the Bayhill event organisers.

‘The build up to this year’s event has surpassed our expectations – the play-offs started in October 2024 and culminated in February this year, with the 12 top teams from the Western Cape qualifying out of 193 participants from the province. Our highlight thus far was a premier launch event where the group draw for the tournament took place. This event, supported strongly by the City of Cape Town has set the tone for what promises to be the biggest BPC tournament to date. The draw revealed three foreign teams, several PSL and NFD teams and the balance of academy and LFA teams from across the country.

‘The stage is set to witness South Africa’s finest talent go head-to-head for the Roger Clayton Championship Trophy. We wish our participants the best of luck and urge the communities to come and experience the excellent football venues at Erica Park and Athlone Stadium – let’s back the boys as they push to become the next Bafana Bafana superstars. This is the Bayhill Premier Cup – Where Legends Are Born!,’ said Bayhill Tournament Director, Rayaan Alie.
