Woodrock Walks For Animal Rescue

More than 300 people have already joined Woodrock Animal Rescue’s Mandela Day Walk of Giving, supporting vulnerable animals through donations, compassion and community action.

More than 300 people have participated in the first two days of Woodrock Animal Rescue’s Mandela Day Walk of Giving, highlighting how Mandela Day can create lasting impact for vulnerable animals.

Held at the rescue sanctuary in the Hennops River Valley, the interactive 6.7km Walk of Giving gives visitors a behind-the-scenes look at the journey of rescue, rehabilitation and rehoming while raising awareness about the ongoing needs of rescued animals.

School groups, corporate teams, families, animal lovers and long-time supporters have taken part by donating food, blankets and other essential supplies before completing the walk around the sanctuary.

After the walk, visitors meet rescued dogs, cats and farm animals, learn about Woodrock’s daily operations and connect with the organisations and volunteers who help care for hundreds of animals.

“The incredible turnout over the first two days has been a reminder that compassion is alive and well,” said Stella Meldau, co-founder of Woodrock Animal Rescue.

“It has been wonderful to welcome school groups, corporate teams, families and animal lovers to our sanctuary, giving them the opportunity to experience rescue firsthand. Every person who has walked through our gates, every donation received and every conversation shared helps us continue providing a second chance to animals who have nowhere else to turn.”

With one day remaining, Woodrock Animal Rescue is inviting the public to join the final Walk of Giving, where every kilometre walked and every donation helps provide food, shelter, veterinary care and hope to the animals in its care.

The final day of the Mandela Day Walk of Giving takes place on 19 July at Woodrock Animal Rescue in the Hennops River Valley, offering another opportunity for South Africans to support animal welfare through meaningful community action.
