Young Entrepreneur Builds Growing Retail Business

Eleven-year-old entrepreneur Gauri Singh is building a growing gifting business while inspiring conversations around youth entrepreneurship, creativity and innovation within South African schools.

At just 11 years old, Gauri Singh is already building an impressive entrepreneurial journey through her business, Gauri’s Gifts of Joy.

The Grade 5 learner from Centennial Schools has developed a growing gifting business that already supplies products to multiple retailers and businesses across Gauteng.

Her expanding client base includes Spar Polofields, Spar Strubensvalley, Spar Retail, Spar Palm Court, Blooms and Gift, Engen garages in Crowthorne and Kyalami on Main, Cellfix, Mia’s Nails and Kismet Spices.

The young entrepreneur has demonstrated a strong understanding of market trends and consumer interests by continuously adapting her product offerings to different seasons and customer preferences.

This year, Gauri is focusing on Mother’s Day gifting collections, while previous product ranges have included jewellery and popular trend-driven items such as Labubus.

Her entrepreneurial journey reflects not only creativity, but also adaptability, consistency and a growing understanding of how to position products within a competitive retail environment.

Looking ahead, Gauri already has ambitious long-term goals, including plans to one day own her own bakery and launch a skincare range.

According to Shaun Fuchs, stories like Gauri’s highlight the importance of rethinking how entrepreneurship is integrated into South Africa’s education system.

Fuchs believes schools have a critical role to play in helping develop future innovators and business leaders by moving beyond traditional employment-focused education models and creating environments that encourage innovation, creativity and entrepreneurial thinking from an early age.

As youth entrepreneurship continues gaining momentum globally, Gauri’s story reflects how young people are increasingly using creativity, confidence and business thinking to turn ideas into real-world opportunities.
