SABC2 Launches Mzansi Ex-Offenders

SABC2 will premiere Mzansi Ex-Offenders, a compelling new 13-part docu-reality series, on Monday, 23 March 2026 at 20:00.

Hosted by TT Mbha, the series follows real South Africans as they navigate life after prison — rebuilding family relationships, confronting their past, and working to reclaim their place in society. More than just a television programme, Mzansi Ex-Offenders opens a national conversation about redemption, fatherhood, accountability, and the possibility of change.

Each episode explores the emotional and psychological realities of reintegration — estrangement from loved ones, depression, guilt, low self-worth, and anger — while also holding space for healing, forgiveness, and transformation.

Filmed in townships and correctional facilities across South Africa, the series delivers raw and intimate storytelling that reflects SABC2’s commitment to family, community, and cultural restoration.

Through deeply personal narratives, the show challenges the stereotype that former offenders cannot be present, responsible parents. Viewers meet the ex-offender, their children (where appropriate), mothers, extended family, and friends — offering layered perspectives on what it truly takes to rebuild trust and restore broken bonds.

One of the participants, Ravi Naidoo, featured in episode one, shares his journey:

“I was the leader of the Phoenix 5 gang. I was sentenced to death and 38 years. I spent six years on death row and was released after serving 25 years in prison. I joined the show to educate young people about the dangers of gangs and drugs. While in prison, I earned three diplomas. Nothing stretches the mind like education. Even when we make mistakes, we can rise again and choose to live better lives. I hope my testimony encourages others to do the right thing.”

TT Mbha says the series reflects his broader mission as a social entrepreneur.

“This show unpacks life before, during and after prison — the realities, the consequences, and the fight to rebuild and belong again. I believe in learning from lived experiences and using those lessons to build a better future for the next generation.”

His involvement aligns with his work through the Amatyma Brotherhood Circle, which focuses on the physical, mental and financial wellness of men and boys.

Mzansi Ex-Offenders is storytelling rooted in real lives, real families and real transformation. It invites audiences to reflect, engage and recognise that change is possible — and that second chances matter.

The series airs every Monday at 20:00 on SABC2 and SABC Plus, starting 23 March 2026.
