CILTSA Women’s Conference to Tackle Gender Gaps in Logistics and Transport

The logistics, transport, and supply chain sector—an economic powerhouse in South Africa—still struggles with gender equity, especially at leadership levels. While women make up nearly half of the workforce, fewer than a quarter hold executive positions. In response, the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport South Africa (CILTSA) will host its Women in Logistics, Transport and Supply Chain Empowerment Conference 2025 on Friday, 26 September at the Birchwood Hotel & OR Tambo Conference Centre in Johannesburg.

Under the theme “Fuel Her Rise: Leadership in Motion,” the conference aims to break systemic barriers and empower women to take up more space in boardrooms and executive suites.

Bridging the Equity Perception Gap

The event comes on the heels of the SAPICS Women in Supply Chain Leadership Survey, which revealed a stark disconnect between men and women’s perceptions of equity in the workplace. While 89% of men believe career opportunities are equally available to all genders, only 57% of women agree. Nearly half of women surveyed suspect they are paid less than their male counterparts for the same work.

“The gap in perception is a major hurdle to real transformation,” said CILTSA Executive Director Catherine Larkin. “This conference is about more than awareness—it’s about action. It provides the tools, networks, and shared experiences needed to drive real change.”

Global Insights, Local Action

Globally, women hold only 23% of Vice President roles in supply chain despite making up 41% of the industry. Locally, women comprise just 28% of the sector. Yet research shows that more women in leadership leads to higher profitability. Companies with diverse leadership teams outperform peers in revenue, innovation, and problem-solving—further reinforcing the need for transformation in this space.

A Power-Packed Programme

The 2025 conference will feature:

  • Keynotes from trailblazing industry leaders

  • High-impact panel discussions

  • Practical sessions on leadership, confidence building, and digital tools for career advancement

  • A spotlight on overcoming imposter syndrome and navigating the gender gap

  • A review of real-life success stories from 2024 conference attendees

Introducing the Imbokodo Hub

A new addition this year is the Imbokodo Hub, a dedicated exhibition space for women-owned small businesses. This initiative aims to promote economic empowerment and connect SMMEs with potential partners, clients, and mentors.

Career-Changing Potential

Beyond education and inspiration, the conference offers unmatched opportunities for mentorship, business growth, and networking across South Africa’s logistics and transport ecosystem. Whether attendees are entrepreneurs, industry veterans, or emerging professionals, the event provides a platform to connect, share, and grow.
