African NGOs Strengthen Digital Resilience

The West Africa Civil Society Institute has equipped 23 Nigerian civil society organisations with advanced digital security skills, strengthening governance, resilience and community impact across West Africa.

The training, delivered through the Civic Space Resource Hub (CSR-Hub West Africa), brought together representatives from organisations in Abuja, Kaduna, Kwara and Plateau States for a three-day programme focused on protecting civil society organisations in an increasingly digital world.

As non-profit organisations continue to rely on digital platforms to deliver services, engage communities and advocate for social change, cyber threats, misinformation and data breaches are becoming significant risks to their operations.

The initiative was designed to help participating organisations build stronger digital systems while protecting sensitive information, staff, volunteers and the communities they serve.

Participants received practical training in cybersecurity, digital risk management, data protection, secure communications and organisational resilience, enabling them to better safeguard their work against emerging online threats.

The programme forms part of WACSI’s broader commitment to strengthening civil society across West Africa by helping organisations improve governance, institutional sustainability and long-term impact.

According to the institute, investing in digital resilience is becoming essential as civil society organisations increasingly use technology to deliver education, healthcare, humanitarian assistance, advocacy and community development programmes.

By strengthening internal systems and improving digital confidence, organisations are better positioned to focus on delivering meaningful social impact while maintaining the trust of donors, beneficiaries and partners.

The training also encouraged collaboration among participating organisations, creating opportunities to share experiences, strengthen peer networks and develop practical solutions to common digital challenges.

WACSI believes resilient civil society organisations are critical to building stronger, more inclusive and democratic societies across Africa.

As technology continues to reshape the development sector, initiatives such as the CSR-Hub West Africa are helping ensure that non-profit organisations have the knowledge and tools needed to innovate safely while expanding their reach and impact.

The programme demonstrates how investing in organisational capacity can strengthen the entire social impact ecosystem, enabling civil society organisations to continue supporting vulnerable communities while adapting to an increasingly digital future.
