Sun International gives learners a great start to school year

As schools around the country opened their doors for the 2022 school year, Sun International came to the party with donations of essential items for previously disadvantaged learners.

“Any parent knows the huge cost of getting their child ready for school, and Sun International is pleased to be able relieve part of this burden for needy families, and give them hope in the process,” said Heidi Edson, Sun International’s Group Socio-Economic Development Manager.

Collectively, Sun International head office and a number of its properties donated over R1.7-million worth of back-to-school essentials, with the breakdown as follows:

· In Cape Town, GrandWest donated a total of R900 238 worth of stationery to 265 learners at Riverton Primary, 375 at Elnor Primary and 542 at Bellville South Secondary schools.

· In Kimberley, Flamingo Casino pushed the boat out with shoes for grades 1 through to 12 at !Xunkhwesa School, worth R88 000.

· Sun International’s Central Office in Johannesburg, along with staff, donated R50 000 worth of stationery to Grade R and Grade 1 learners at Zenzeleni Primary in Alex.

· Sun City Resort in the North West Province donated R230 311 worth of school shoes, stationery and uniforms to 140 beneficiaries at orphans and vulnerable children centres in the local communities.

· In Worcester, Golden Valley donated R40 000 worth of stationery to 65 learners at Bo-Doorn Rivier Primary and 40 learners at Welville Primary school.

· In Gqeberha, Boardwalk donated R18 000 in school shoes and stationery to boys at Khayalethu Youth Centre, and R6 500 worth of stationery to Healing Minds Creche.

· In KwaZulu-Natal, Sibaya Casino will be making two donations in March – firstly, meals and shoes to the value of more than R144 000 to learners at Siphosethu Primary School, and secondly, meals, shoes and stationery valued at over R245 000 to learners of Sibonginhlanhla Primary School.
