SPARK Blue Downs says no to bullying

Social and emotional development plays a significant role in children reaching their potential, and bullying is one experience that can have a negative impact on a child’s well-being.

Recently, SPARK Blue Downs embarked in a drive to educate scholars about bullying, including an anti-bullying march, to decrease the prevalence of bullying and promote a safe environment in their community.

Studies show that in South Africa, 58% of scholars have encountered some form of bullying, including cyberbullying, which has become increasingly common. It is always our responsibility, as schools and parents, to educate and

prevent scholars from being victims or perpetrators of bullying. SPARK Blue Downs scholars can be seen in the video here:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3ghyOzge8C4, expressing their thoughts on bullying and the effects it has on them. Most importantly, in the video, the scholars talk about their actions to prevent bullying at their school.

“Building a healthy and safe environment for our scholars is our number one priority, and we’ve had support from parents to further educate our scholars at home about the dangers of bullying,” said Gerardine Hough at SPARK Blue Downs.

SPARK’s emphasis on its core values teaches scholars to share their feelings and concerns with their parents, guardians, teachers, and other SPARK scholars to develop a sense of community support.
