Spain looks to ease youth unemployment after YES visit

The Youth Employment Service (YES), a private sector initiative to reduce South Africa’s unemployment crisis, is working with the Spanish government and the Spanish Chamber of Commerce (SCC) to explore ways to address youth unemployment through skills and entrepreneurship training.

A high-level Spanish delegation – including María Begoña Gómez Fernández, the spouse of Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez – visited the YES Netcare Ulusha hub in Alexandra, with YES CEO Ravi Naidoo highlighting the way the Hub connects the youth and the community to address barriers to youth employment, entrepreneurship, and economic inclusion.

The visit is expected to raise YES’s visibility with the Spanish business community and the European Union. The EU runs several Youth Employment Support Package initiatives that focus on reducing youth unemployment and inactivity by developing skills and employment opportunities for youth in the digital and green energy sectors.
