SUZU Motors South Africa in partnership with Gift of the Givers officially handed over an industrial borehole and water harvesting tanks to the St. Albans Primary School. Situated next to an informal settlement, with little or no access to clean drinking water, the borehole will not only benefit the young learners at the school but also the community of St. Albans.
ISUZU Motors South Africa, Executive of Corporate & Public Affairs, Mandlakazi Sigcawu says, “South Africa is a water-scarce country with water shortages being experienced in many parts of the country, more so in the Eastern Cape. For us ISUZU Motors South Africa we hope this borehole will bring much needed relief to the St Albans community”, adds Sigcawu.
Gift of the Givers, Dr. Imtiaz Sooliman says, “The prolonged drought across the Eastern Cape is having serious consequences and continues to make life untenable for many. Gift of the Givers has initiated several water interventions in communities over the years and is seeing the provision of water more and more.
“We recognise the impact of the current water situation on the broader community in the Eastern Cape and more specifically the community in which we operate, Gqeberha. An integral part of ISUZU’s vision is to provide sustainable solutions, that shape and influence our society and environment by investing in skills development and education, environmental management and providing support to natural disaster relief,” concludes Sigcawu.
The school also received 200 sanitary packs donated by ISUZU employees to be distributed amongst the pupils. The partnership between ISUZU and Gift of the Givers aims to address and provide disaster relief to the local communities in South Africa.
