Impala Rustenburg hosts winter school programme for Grade 12s

A group of students from 10 high schools supported by Impala Rustenburg were hosted for an intensive, week-long winter school programme to prepare for their final matric exams.

A first-time initiative by Impala Rustenburg, the winter school focused on the core subjects of Physical Sciences, Mathematics, Life Sciences, Geography and English (first-additional language and higher level). Learners from Charora, Thethe, Molotlegi, Bafokeng, Keledi, Platinum Village, Meriti, Sekete IV, Grenswag and Sunrise View secondary schools were selected to participate.

The programme ran over five days and teachers from various high schools prepared the learners for the final grade 12 exams, providing learning material and revision classes. The learners were accommodated in hostels, and provided nutritious meals for the duration of their stay.

Comments Mark Munroe, Chief Executive of Impala Rustenburg, “This initiative is a continuation of our school support programme, which has been in place for many years. We are passionately invested in ensuring a brighter future for Rustenburg. These young learners have the potential to be the future leaders of our province and our country, and we hope that this intervention will help them realise their full potential.”

The learners commented that they felt supported in their final-year efforts, being taught by passionate teachers who were invested in going the extra mile to assist them. They enjoyed the experience and have remained in contact with the various subject teachers for additional assistance.

“I love learning and I enjoyed this experience,” said Tshegofatso Moroane, a matric learner from Charora High School. “I now know and understand much more within the subjects that were covered. This will assist me in ensuring I get the marks to study Metallurgy.”
