CSI initiative to assist 300 families with basic needs

A Girl And A Guy, has collaborated with a local NGO in Kliptown 1955 Creative Collaboration NPC to create a heart-rending CSI initiative #LetsSaveKliptown – A CSI initiative aimed at assisting 300 families in Kliptown with basic needs such as day to day sanitary, sanitisers, face masks and winter clothing considering the winter season we are heading into.

“Umuntu Ngumuntu Ngabantu. I’m human because of other humans. We are community based but globally thinking NPC addressing social and environmental issues through creativity, innovation and collaboration, with a strong aim to be economically sustainable. We are so honoured by the collaboration between AGAAG and us to launch #LetsSaveKliptown. We truly hope we can come together as a collective and extended public to help support the 300 families Kliptown.” Thabang Nkwanyana – 1955 director

1955 is a South African registered NPC that’s based in Kliptown, Soweto established by a group of hardworking long-time friends and colleagues with a purpose to uplift the Kliptown community to be known as one that reflects all the beautiful heritage that stemmed from the neighbourhood as of back in 1955 when the Freedom charter was signed. 1955s’ overall goal is to address its local social and environmental issues through creativity and innovative activities that can improve the standards of living in the area.

Today Kliptown has the highest number of informal dwellings – a total of 8978 informal settlements, where 18.9% of the population lives on R28 a day which is around R800 a month without basic services to maintain a good living and struggle with issues of air pollution (from the use of coal as fuel), illegal dumping, and water pollution.

With COVID-19 making situations worse the NGO took it to themselves to run a COVID-19 drive to assist their community with disinfecting all community shared toilets by manufacturing their self-made sanitisers to avoid the spread of COVID, provide toilet rolls, bath soap, and food to the elderly people within their community to promote good hygiene and good health.

“We partnered with 1955 because their story was relatable than any other, and closer to home. As a young lady that’s born and bred in Soweto, Pimville. After having to meet the team, and did a walk around Kliptown I couldn’t help but cry to see and experience how other people were living in this day and age. That’s when I was certain that launching #LetsSaveKliptown CSI initiative will allow us the opportunity to make a difference in someone’s life”. – Lungile Gunundu, founder of A Girl and A Guy PR

#LetsSaveKliptown appeals to ordinary South Africans to assist with helping the 300 families and the NGO in any way possible. All donations can be made to A Girl And A Guy PR agency. To find out more information, contact at hello@agirlandaguy.co.za
