Urban Mobility staff recognised for outstanding service excellence

The Urban Mobility Directorate traded in hard hats and high-vis gear for glitz and glam at its annual Urban Mobility Awards Ceremony on Wednesday, 9 April 2025. Held at the Civic Centre Banqueting Hall, this prestigious event celebrated staff achievements and long-standing service excellence across the directorate.

The highlight of the Urban Mobility Awards Ceremony was the presentation of the 45 Years of Service Award to Granville Adams and Mogamat Yusuf, marking a significant milestone in their careers.

A total of 79 staff members were recognised for their 25, 30, 35, 40, and 45 years of dedicated service.

‘We are particularly proud to honour those who have dedicated 25 to 45 years of service to our city. Your tireless efforts and unwavering commitment have been instrumental in our success. We are extremely grateful for the years of service and dedication each of you have given,’ said the City’s Urban Mobility Executive Director, Dalene Campbell.

A total of 85 nominations were submitted for recognition awards across five categories aligned with the City of Cape Town’s core values: accountability, care, openness and transparency, innovation, and service excellence.

‘This is not just a celebration of hard work, but moreover a celebration of heart, of resilience, of innovation and of deep commitment to public service. We have real leaders in our midst; people who are working together to build the best city in the world and continuously delivering on big and small projects to ensure that we keep Cape Town moving,’ said the City’s Mayoral Committee Member for Urban Mobility, Councillor Rob Quintas.

‘To mention a few out of the many that were awarded, we recognised the innovative team that implemented the first-of-its-kind automated reversible bus lane in South Africa. We also recognised the team that installed and trialled the Thermicam AI sensor. We also had a young project manager, Tashmah Rambali, being awarded the bronze Service Excellence award amongst three other winners in the category. How can I forget Johan Fowler and his team for also being awarded the Caring gold award – they manage our Metro South East Corridor projects. Johan also received the Mayor’s award in 2024,’ said Councillor Quintas.

A total of 19 awards were presented, recognising the outstanding efforts of 111 individual nominees. This is a testament to the collaborative and driven culture within the City of Cape Town’s Urban Mobility Directorate.
