TNT Plastics brings relief to local communities

TNT Plastics stepped up to support local communities at the close of 2024. The company helped the September family rebuild their home after a devastating fire and organised a Christmas event for children from Solomon’s Haven.

The gold-certified REHAU fabrication partner, operational since 2001, has installed uPVC windows on many residential and commercial projects in the Cape Town area, including an office block at Saldanha Gas and Saldanha Oil Storage (MOGS) as well as Studios on Fyfe – student accommodation for Stellenbosch University. When the Septembers lost their timber-frame home in Steenberg, Cape Town, to a fire that claimed the lives of two family members, TNT Plastics replaced the windows in the family’s rebuilt home, using energy-efficient uPVC window frames from REHAU. These frames were fire-resistant and designed to maintain indoor temperatures by reducing heat loss in winter and minimising heat gain in summer, helping to lower energy costs while providing comfort.

“We used sample profiles donated by REHAU to manufacture the windows for the family,” said Terrance Albertyn, owner of TNT Plastics. “The city handled roof repairs, while other contractors contributed electrical work and painting. It was a collective effort to get the family back into a safe, functional home.”

TNT Plastics also made Christmas brighter for children in need. On December 15th, the company hosted the annual festive event at the Ottery Pistol Club for children from Solomon’s Haven in Mitchell’s Plain. The day featured activities such as pizza making, games, and a fire safety demonstration, along with a hot meal and Christmas gifts for each child. School supplies for the new year have also been distributed.

“Our goal is to ensure these children feel supported and prepared for school,” said Albertyn. “We wanted them to enjoy the day and start the new year on a positive note.”

This initiative was supported by local businesses, community members, and volunteers, with funds raised through events such as karaoke nights and competitions.

REHAU Marketing Manager Boitumelo Thipe-Mogami commended the initiative: “We’re proud to see REHAU products being used in projects that directly benefit the community. It’s inspiring to see businesses like TNT Plastics leading these efforts. We’re looking at ways to deepen our involvement in similar initiatives moving forward.”

The partnership demonstrates how sustainable products like uPVC window frames can play a vital role in improving living conditions in affordable housing projects. Their fire-resistant properties, durability, and low maintenance make them particularly suitable for areas prone to extreme weather or other risks.

With a different charity being adopted every year, both TNT Plastics and REHAU aim to continue supporting similar initiatives in the future, focusing on sustainable solutions and community upliftment.
