In a continued effort to drive digital literacy and enhance education, Cell C, in partnership
with the Department of Basic Education, handed over a fully equipped Digital Lab to
Madibatlou Middle School in Gauteng.
This fully furnished lab includes 25 laptops powered by Cell C data, a high-performance
server, a printer, an air conditioning unit for optimal learning conditions, and a projector to
enhance interactive teaching. Combined with the C3 Micro Cloud solution, it provides
learners with essential e-learning tools, including curriculum-aligned content, courses, and
lesson packs. This ensures students have the digital resources they need to excel in an
increasingly technology-driven world.
“We have committed ourselves to driving digital inclusion in not only the products we sell, but
promoting it in our communities through initiatives such as providing digital classrooms to
empower students with the tools they need to thrive in a digital future,” said Jorge Mendes,
Chief Executive Officer at Cell C. “We want to leave a lasting impact on education and
ensuring that young learners have the opportunity to excel in their academic journeys.”
“By combining digital tools with practical innovations, Cell C is helping to create an
environment where no learner is left behind” added Jorge Mendes.
MEC for the Department of Basic Education, Matome Chiloane, added: “Access to digital
resources is essential in today’s education system. The partnership with Cell C
demonstrates our shared commitment to ensuring that learners across Gauteng are
equipped with the necessary tools to succeed. This initiative is a step forward in bridging the
digital divide and creating a more inclusive education system.”
Beyond its immediate impact in the classroom, this initiative reinforces the broader mission
of fostering digital inclusion and technological advancement in under-resourced
communities. By providing cutting-edge learning tools, Cell C is not only improving academic
outcomes but also inspiring a culture of innovation, creativity, and digital fluency among
young learners.
Principal of Madibatlou Middle School expressed the significance of this initiative:
“This donation is more than just technology—it’s a gateway to opportunity. For many of our
learners, access to digital tools was once a distant dream. Now, they can explore, learn, and
compete on equal footing with their peers in the digital age. This lab will not only enhance
their education but also inspire a new generation of innovators and leaders.”
This initiative reflects Cell C’s commitment to allyship and collaboration, ensuring that
inclusive connectivity solutions remain at the forefront of its efforts. By investing in digital
education, Cell C continues to support the government’s Sustainable Development Goals
(SDGs), particularly in advancing quality education and bridging the digital divide
